Tribute to William James Oliver Jordan, 1941 - 2026
I was fortunate to have Bill as my tutor when I was a social work student at Exeter University in 1977 - it was because of Bill's support that I began my [now long] career as a family psychotherapist. Bill had a marvellous capacity to recognise and bring forth the strengths, abilities and dreams of those whose lives he touched. In addition he attended so actively to the contexts that we live in - families, communities, social and world systems. He was courageous and creatively irreverent in speaking out against injustice, inequality, and oppression. A fine mind, a compassionate heart, a great sense of fun, magnificent energy - he drew on all of these to be present and to contribute. And I recall he could also hit the dance floor with some aplomb! Thank you Bill - I will be grateful forever that our paths crossed.
